A Note From Kimball
After a long few days of flights/cancellations/delays/lost baggage Kody got to Chile. My mom was/is a hot mess over it all. She just wants him to have all the things she prepared for him.
Ben will miss his ping pong buddy. I will miss talking with Kody. We are both so stoked for him. We know it will be really hard, but it's supposed to be. I imagine he is going to have his faith, confidence, and charity strengthened. This little brother of mine is going to go on to do big things!
When we're waving to Kody through the glass you can see me in the reflection throwing a peace sign :)
The last picture is Lizzie & mom talking with Kody (in his first area). Lizzie wanted to sit and listen. He told us they bike over 20 miles a day in his area. He is in 1 of the 2 areas that bike. They also bike on the freeway and he dropped one of his sandwiches while biking (after fasting), bummer! Atleast he had one left and his comp split his second one with him.
Want to attach the email I sent to Kody (1st p-day). He had mentioned while talking with us, "I've been all about the 'enjoy' it theme, but I hope it gets better because I don't know if I can endure this for two years". He is feeling pretty discouraged about the language and lifestyle. Totally normal feelings, but still so daunting and discouraging when you feel them in the moment. This was my response via email:
That second picture tho! Haha the real life pics are the best.
Enjoy: gaudere [Latin] to "rejoice" "experience joy"
Endure: in-durus [latin] to be "in hard"
It's okay for your mission experience to be hard, it's supposed to be. Not every day is good or bad. You can feel a mixture of so many different emotions at once.
Even the Savior enJOYed a lot of His life, but there were some moments He had to endure (He was 'in the hard'), specifically as He was experiencing His last, ultimate sacrifice. He endured through that so that others could experience a whole new level of joy in the future.
A mission is a huge sacrifice. You, Ben, me and many others chose to endure, to experience really hard times, with the hope and faith that we would help others and ourselves experience a whole new level of joy in the future. Search and ponder on your why. Why are you doing this? Why did you choose it months ago? And why will you continue? Find your one-liner sentence that you can write, recite, and repeat when you need a reminder.
Love you Kody! I'm here for you and so is your Savior. He endured then so you could enjoy now; enjoy the peace and reassurance that you are sealed to your family forever, and that with His extra strength you can grow, change, and become more than you are right now.
You can still enjoy while enduring. You can still 'rejoice' while you are 'in the hard'.
